Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) are non-profit education student associations that form a local, state and national network and prepare students for career-related areas. Students are able to participate in competitive events across multiple disciplines and become eligible to attend National and International competitions. Wyoming has five CTSOs including DECA (preparing emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), The National FFA Organization (FFA), and Skills USA. CTSOs not only build career and technical skills, they help students with confidence and self-esteem, communication, public speaking, leadership and resume building.

Wyoming DECA’s mission is to prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. DECA helps students develop skills and competence for marketing careers, build self-esteem, experience leadership and practice community service. The competitive events in DECA include team decision-making events, individual series events, principles of business administration events, online events, marketing representative events, professional selling events, chapter team events, business operations research events, business management and entrepreneurship events and financial literacy events.

Wyoming FBLA represents approximately 1,000 members located throughout the state of Wyoming in over 30 local high school and middle-level chapters. Wyoming FBLA is part of the quarter million members of Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda The members of this nonprofit 501(c)(3) education association with headquarters in Reston, Virginia, are preparing for careers in business and business-related fields.
FBLA-PBL is the largest and oldest business student organization in the world! FBLA-PBL, Inc. is headquartered in Reston, Virginia, and organized on local, state, and national levels. Business teachers, advisers, and advisory councils (including school officials, businesspeople, and community representatives) guide local chapters. The State adviser coordinates two state conferences and training, and local chapters coordinate local chapter activities to benefit their schools and communities while developing leadership skills.

The first ever combined FBLA and DECA Fall Leadership Conference, “Design your Future” and “Own your Future.” took place in Casper. Over 700 attendees from throughout Wyoming participated in leadership, career, and entrepreneurship development opportunities, as well as competitions.
FBLA members also are making goodie bags for Wyoming National Guard troops overseas!

Wyoming FCCLA’s mission is to promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education, focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner and community leader. Members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge and career development.
Family and Career and Community Leaders of America has been active in Wyoming since the beginning. FCCLA has Star Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) in which students are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation.

A “World of Opportunities” Fall Conference in Casper was a big success with 441 in attendance from across Wyoming.FCCLA State Officers on Capitol Hill at the Capitol Leadership Conference in Washington DC advocating for CTSOs.
Wyoming FFA’s mission is the same as the National FFA Organization, which is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

National FFA Convention, located in Indianapolis proved to be the perfect place for Wyoming FFA chapters to put Wyoming on the map. Wyoming placing three national championships, one reserve national championship and a third-place team finish, many other gold emblem teams and individuals, national agriscience fair competitors, one proficiency finalist and 35 American FFA Degree recipients. “Members from across the state came together to represent our ENTIRE state, not just their chapter. They competed with Cowboy pride, demonstrated our western work ethic, and conducted themselves with integrity and respect.”

Wyoming SkillsUSA is an applied method of instruction for preparing America’s high performance workers in public career and technical programs. It provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes and communications skills. It emphasizes total quality at work: high ethical standards, superior work skills, life-long education, and pride in the dignity of work. SkillsUSA also promotes understanding of the free-enterprise system and involvement in community service.
