09-11-2023 Alternate Assessment Participation Annual Reporting Form

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) (34 CFR § 200.6 (c)(3)) requires that states ensure the total number of students assessed using an alternate assessment for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities does not exceed 1% of the total number of all students assessed in the state. States that anticipate they will exceed 1% are required to request a federal waiver and verify that each district or school that anticipates exceeding this limit, in any subject, has followed the state’s guidelines for participation in the alternate assessment.

Per ESSA (34 CFR § 200.6 (c)(3)), the WDE requires each district to submit completed assurances and justification when it anticipates exceeding 1% of students assessed in a subject with the alternate assessment.

This survey will support district analysis of current data to identify if more than 1% of assessed students will be using the WY-ALT during the 2023-24 school year. Submission of the survey and supporting evidence will serve as justification, meeting the requirements of 34 CFR § 200.6 (c)(3).
