08-28-2023 United States Senate Youth Program Application for 2024

Applications are being accepted from outstanding high school students currently serving in an elected or appointed leadership position for the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP). Students selected will gain a unique educational experience and receive a $10,000 scholarship for their undergraduate studies.

The Wyoming Department of Education will select two student delegates to represent our state in the program. In addition to the scholarship, participants will spend a week in Washington D.C. experiencing the federal government in action. Student delegates will hear major policy addresses by senators, cabinet members, officials from the Departments of State and Defense, and directors of other federal agencies. Student delegates will also participate in meetings with the President and a justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. All transportation, hotel and meal expenses will be provided by The Hearst Foundation

A qualified applicant is a high school junior or senior that is actively serving in an elected or appointed capacity in student government, civic, or education organizations during the current 2023-24 academic school year. This includes:

  • Student body president, vice president, secretary, or treasurer;
  • Class president, vice president, secretary, or treasurer;
  • Student Council representative;
  • National Honor Society officer (including discipline-based Honor Societies such as the National English Society and Social Studies Honor Societies that include service components);
  • Student representative (elected or appointed by a panel, commission, or board) to a local, district, regional, or state-level civic, service, and/or educational organization approved by the state selection administrator; or
  • Student officer-level leadership positions within cadet corps, often called Cadet Corps Commander. (JROTC cadets alone will NOT qualify).

The completed application must be submitted by October 24, 2023. Finalists will be selected and interviewed in early November by the Wyoming selection panel. The top two students will serve as the Wyoming delegates for the USSYP, to be held March 2-9, 2024 in Washington, D.C. Find more information here.
