01-08-2024 English Language Proficiency Assessment Required For Active ELLs

All English Language Learners (ELLs), in Kindergarten through grade 12, must take the ACCESS for ELLs or the ALT ACCESS for ELLs English Language Proficiency Assessment each year to fulfill the federal and state requirement of measuring ELL’ progress in Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. Unlike the WY-TOPP, there is no assessment exemption for an Active EL, or for students who ‘opt-out’ of ELL programs or services. For Active ELL students with an IEP or 504 plan who cannot access a domain, a State Assessment Exemption Request can be submitted.

The ACCESS for ELLs assessment window is open Tuesday, January 23, through Friday, March 1. Ensure test administrators are prepared to administer these assessments by reviewing the Wyoming ACCESS for ELLs Checklist, which notes each step in the ACCESS testing process.

Signed Wyoming Assessment Security Agreements for K-12 Statewide Assessments for administering the ACCESS are required. For more information about important assessment security measures, refer to Wyoming’s Assessment Security Guide
