The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) maintains the state’s approved advisory list of Universal and Dyslexia screening instruments in accordance with the Wyoming Language and Literacy Act and Chapter 57 Rules. This resource supports school districts in selecting high-quality screening instruments that meet Wyoming’s requirements for the early identification of students at risk for poor reading outcomes and to strengthen evidence-based language and literacy instruction for students in kindergarten through grade twelve.

The screening instruments included on this advisory list have been reviewed through the WDE evaluation process and are intended to support implementation of a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). These tools assist districts in identifying students who may demonstrate characteristics associated with dyslexia, developmental language disorder, or other reading difficulties so that timely, targeted instruction and intervention can be provided.

Important Note: Screening results do not constitute a medical diagnosis, clinical diagnosis, or determination of eligibility for special education services. Screening data are intended to inform instructional decision-making, guide the selection of diagnostic assessments when appropriate, support intervention planning, and monitor student progress within a Multi-Tiered System of Support.

Key Resources Available:

  • Approved Dyslexia Screeners: Instruments evaluated for their ability to assess both word-recognition and oral language/comprehension constructs.
  • Approved Universal Screeners: Tools validated for identifying students at risk for reading difficulties across grade levels.
