The Wyoming Department of Education has established a structured review process for evaluating vendor-submitted assessment instruments. Through this process, the Department ensures that instruments recommended for approval demonstrate strong evidence-based support for identifying students with reading difficulties and for monitoring progress over time. The Task Force comprises national experts and experienced practitioners with expertise in literacy, dyslexia, assessment, and implementation in school systems.

  • Vendors are required to submit an Intent to Apply.
  • Selected vendors are invited to complete a full application, including submission of evidence from technical documentation.
  • Submissions are evaluated for both technical quality and practical application in educational settings.
  • Evaluation focuses on reliability, validity, sensitivity to student performance, and the instrument’s ability to identify students with reading difficulties and support ongoing progress monitoring.
  • At the conclusion of the review process, each instrument receives a determination of Full Approval, Conditional Approval, or Denial.
  • Approved instruments are documented in an official record and published by the Wyoming Department of Education.

*Please note that all vendors, including those currently on the approved list, must proceed through this process to be considered for placement on the Wyoming Advisory List.
