The fall student climate survey window will be open from October 28November 15. The survey is required for all alternative high schools as part of the School Climate Indicator in the alternative school accountability model, however all schools that serve grades 612 are invited to participate. All schools intending to participate must complete the Survey Participant Questionnaire by October 16.

The 24-item survey uses a Likert scale to measure students’ perceptions related to trust, respect, support, and high expectations. The survey includes one open-ended question, “Is there anything else you want to tell us about your experience at this school?”. It is administered online and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. Unique login IDs will be provided to districts in the confidential reporting portal on October 23. Districts will need to distribute the IDs to students prior to the testing window. Individual student responses will not be reported back to district staff.

The framework for alternative school accountability was developed in collaboration with an alternative schools technical advisory group, allowing the school performance ratings to reflect a more accurate representation of alternative school performance under the Wyoming Accountability in Education Act (WAEA). Alternative school accountability is based on a model that meaningfully differentiates performance among alternative schools, rather than comparing them to traditional high schools.
