The University of Wyoming (UW) Science and Math Teaching Center (SMTC) and the UW College of Education are hosting a book club to read Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics, Grades K–12 by Peter Liljedahl.
The book focuses on how to get students thinking, collaborating, and persevering in math class. The book club will consist of ten synchronous Zoom sessions. Register here by October 30, or by October 15 if you need a book. The first 15 to register can receive a free copy of the book. The first session is November 5. Participants can earn two graduate credits from UW upon course completion.
If you’ve already read Building Thinking Classrooms, you can instead read Mathematics Tasks for the Thinking Classroom. You will use the tasks with students and use the sessions to share what worked, what was surprising, and what to adjust next time. Both tracks meet together, so first-time readers and experienced implementers can learn from one another.
