Within the context of results-driven accountability, accurate fiscal data is a critical component.  The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) contains a number of requirements regarding state and local funds for special education and the use of federal dollars.  Accurate data are necessary to ensure compliance with these federal fiscal requirements and to make informed decisions about resource allocation and educational programs, which ultimately impact student outcomes.

Our Commitment to Excellence

The IDEA is a federal law ensuring a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) for all eligible children with disabilities. To receive the federal funds that support these programs, Wyoming must submit an annual application to the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). This application serves as our formal commitment to providing quality special education and related services to students ages 3 through 21 across the state.

Transparency in Funding

A key component of this application is the interactive spreadsheet. In alignment with federal fiscal requirements, this document provides a transparent look at how Wyoming proposes to use IDEA funds. It details the balance between:

  • Direct Support to Schools: The “flow-through” funds that go directly to your local school districts.
  • State-Level Activities: Resources used for monitoring, technical assistance, teacher training, and statewide supports.
