These resources are based on the Discovery Process for students with significant complex needs.  This is a comprehensive resource for teachers, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) transition navigators, and team members as a tool to easily implement the Discovery Process into day-to-day educational activities of any student, with particular focus on students with significant complex needs. For a detailed overview of the Discovery Process and how to integrate these tools, view the overview document.

These tools seek to better empower teams with the resources to ensure all students have high expectations and communities are empowered to create partnerships and employment opportunities that best fit the needs of these unique community members.

Using the Resources

The Discovery Process has Three Stages:

  • Stage 1 – Career Awareness.
  • Stage 2 – Career Planning.
  • Stage 3 – Career Development.

The stages are designed to be implemented as early in the educational journey as possible and to continue through graduation and post-secondary employment, training, or further education.  The Discovery Process can be started at any age and any stage in a student’s educational journey if they have not been involved in the process before.

Once a student begins the journey through the stages, that documentation and implementation plan should follow them from year to year and continue to be developed and refined as their skills, interests, and abilities change.

These resources have been designed to be time-saving, simple, and efficient. It simplifies the Discovery Process by including links to resources to ensure that each stage has been thoroughly considered. It includes documents, resources, websites, contact information for community partner agencies, and other related resources. It also directly correlates to standards and benchmarks to justify implementation within current programming without adding additional workload to your already full plate.
