Two additional schools have been designated Wyoming Purple Star Schools for their commitment to supporting military-connected students: East High School and Anderson Elementary in Laramie County School District #1.
Wyoming K-12 schools can join the Purple Star School Program (PSSP) to recognize efforts that are committed and supportive of military students and families as they transition to their new homes and schools.
As military families transition between schools, students must adapt to varying cultures, school populations, curricula, standards, course offerings, schedules, and graduation requirements. As a result, they face unique academic and social-emotional challenges. A mission deployment of a family member can also contribute to significant stress on a student.
Wyoming schools are committed to supporting all military-connected students, recognizing that this includes not only those with parents on active duty but also students whose siblings, grandparents, or other extended family members are currently serving, are members of the Guard or Reserve, have recently enlisted, or are veterans. This broad commitment is essential for providing all students with the necessary resources.
Wyoming public and private schools can apply for the Purple Star School Award at any time. The application process includes submitting evidence that program requirements have been met, followed by a WDE PSSP Advisory Panel compliance review. Finally, the Advisory Panel votes on the award of the WY PSSP certificate.
