This update clarifies information regarding determining classifications as a Foster Care student that was shared originally on July 15

The Wyoming Department of Family Services (DFS) Social Services is the governing agency for Foster Care. A placed student is considered to be in foster care only if DFS Social Services, as the governing body, or their official agent, is involved and declares the child to be in foster care. This is regardless of who initially placed the student, where they were placed, or who pays for the placement.

In the WDE684 guidebook, ‘the child welfare agency’ refers to DFS Social Services as the governing body
