In Collaboration with the Wyoming Community Foundation and Black Hills Special Services Cooperative (BHSSC), BOCES 5 invites Wyoming educators, community leaders, and residents to participate in a new interactive Poverty Escape Room experience. The project will bring six immersive experiences to three Wyoming communities over the next year. BHSSC will provide facilitator training, curriculum, implementation support, and project evaluation throughout the initiative.
BOCES 5 supports school districts across Wyoming through professional learning and innovative educational programming. By partnering with BHSSC, which has facilitated Poverty Escape Room experiences for more than 1,000 participants annually in South Dakota, BOCES 5 is bringing a proven, research-informed model to Wyoming. Each event concludes with a facilitated discussion that helps participants translate the experience into meaningful action, identifying policies, practices, and partnerships that can better support Wyoming families
Participants will step into the role of individuals facing poverty, making difficult decisions with limited resources while experiencing the barriers many Wyoming families encounter every day. The experience is designed to build empathy, deepen understanding, and inspire participants to create more equitable opportunities in their schools, organizations, and communities.
