To celebrate military families, the Wyoming Department of Education is encouraging schools to wear purple on April 10, which is designated as Purple Up! Day for Military Kids. This initiative is part of a month-long recognition of military families.
Month of the Military Child recognizes the important role military children and their families play in keeping our country free and safe. All month, schools across the nation will hold events to celebrate the commitment and sacrifice of service members and their families and to pledge their support to help these students excel academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
On April 10, Wyoming students and educators are encouraged to celebrate Purple Up! Day for Military Kids by wearing purple. Purple is a combination of all the colors of the branches of the military, and wearing it recognizes the unique challenges military children and families face during frequent moves and deployments.
Celebrating the Month of the Military Child and Purple Up! Day encourages collaboration between school districts, the military, the community, and local officials. View celebration ideas for schools.
Governor Mark Gordon will declare April the Month of the Military Child in Wyoming with a proclamation signing on April 13 from 4 to 5 p.m. Free parking (two-hour limit) is available around the Capitol Building and down Capitol Avenue. Follow along and celebrate all month on Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, and LinkedIn.
