Cheyenne – State Superintendent Megan Degenfelder and the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) have released results for the 2024-25 School Performance Ratings.
School performance levels are derived from a variety of indicators, including student growth, readiness, achievement, equity, and English language proficiency. Achievement, or in other words, the state assessment, is most heavily weighted. For alternative schools, the measures are similar to traditional schools, with Climate and Engagement as additional indicators.
Percent of Traditional Schools at Performance Levels for Wyoming Schools
- 70% of 3-8 schools are Meeting or Exceeding in Achievement, an increase of 10% last year. 7% of schools remain Not Meeting Expectations for 3 consecutive years.
- The Wyoming Charter School Authorizing Board schools are included in this calculation; however, last year, all of these schools were Not Meeting. This year, Wyoming Classical (Casper) is Meeting, and Prairie View and Cheyenne Classical are Partially Meeting.
- Wyoming’s Alternative Schools are showing a 20% increase in Meeting or Exceeding Expectations from last year, now at 95%.
- Graduates from ALL schools meeting the Post-secondary Readiness indicator have increased over 10% in the past two years to 66.5%.

In addition to the release of results, the WDE is shifting the State System of Supports from a reactive framework to a forward-facing, comprehensive system of school success. At the heart of this transformation are Critical School Improvement Plans, designed not merely as compliance tools but as strategic roadmaps for continuous growth and achievement for the most underperforming schools.
“The positive trend in school performance ratings across the state shows that our efforts at the state level and the hard work of districts and teachers in the classroom are working, said State Superintendent Megan Degenfelder. “However, there is much room for improvement, and the WDE is working to not only reform the State System of Support, but also how we analyze the data in the upcoming year.”
Natrona County School District #1 made significant gains in school performance. Included is Pineview Elementary, which moved from Not Meeting two years ago, to Meeting last year, to Exceeding Expectations this year. In three years, Summit Elementary has moved from Partially Meeting to Exceeding Expectations, and Midwest K-12 has moved from Not Meeting to Meeting. Additionally, Bar Nunn Elementary had significant improvement this year, moving two rating levels from Not Meeting to Meeting Expectations in a single year. Together, these improvements reflect how the district is working diligently to achieve system-wide improvement.
Three schools achieved Exceeding Expectations status for a sixth consecutive year: Spring Creek Elementary – Albany County School District #1; Burlington High School – Big Horn County School District #1; and PODER Academy School – Laramie County School District #1.
