The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) remains committed to ensuring our military-connected students—who transition schools an average of six to nine times during their K-12 careers—receive the stability and support they need to succeed. Military-Connected Families can find resources on the WDE Military Family Support Hub. Districts and schools can log in to the WDE District Resource Portal (login required) for specific guidance and resources.

The following resources are provided by the WDE to support military-connected families.

Wyoming Purple Star School Program

K-12 schools can earn the Wyoming Purple Star School designation to recognize their dedicated efforts to support military students and their families as they navigate transitions to new homes and schools.

Both public and private schools are eligible to submit a Purple Star School application along with documentation of required activities at any time. Applications are reviewed before being submitted to the WY PSSP Advisory Panel for a final vote of approval.

Military Interstate Children’s Compact (MIC3)

Wyoming is an active member of the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission (MIC3). This compact establishes a consistent, nationwide policy framework to address the unique and often complex educational challenges faced by the children of military families who frequently transfer between schools and states.

The primary goal of the MIC3, and consequently, Wyoming’s aligned state policies, is to ensure the smooth academic and social transition of these military dependents. This is achieved by expediting the enrollment process so no delays occur due to missing paperwork, guaranteeing that students are placed in appropriate classes based on their previous school’s equivalent, and providing flexibility in graduation requirements.

All Wyoming school districts must review and update their local policies and administrative procedures to ensure they are in alignment with the MIC3 guidelines.
