Applied Typing and Workplace Communication develops foundational keyboarding proficiency and practical written-communication skills for academic and professional success. Through eight units, students examine the role of typing in a digital world; trace the history and varieties of keyboards; master posture, finger placement, and key functions; and learn the document-production cycle (planning, drafting, editing, proofreading). The course covers personal and business communication formats (personal letters, email, memos, press releases, and reports), and addresses speed, accuracy, continuous improvement, and use of online practice resources. Career-focused units introduce typing-related jobs and workplace expectations—including professionalism, collaboration, and basic legal issues—while activities and discussions build leadership, career planning, and job-search skills. Assessment includes quizzes, practical typing exercises, written assignments, discussions, and a midterm exam to demonstrate competency in accuracy, speed, and effective written communication.
