Music 1
Beginning 1 Music is for first graders continuing with K12 and second graders new to K12. Using traditional games and folk songs from various cultures, students start reading and writing simple melodic and rhythmic patterns. They learn about orchestra instruments through Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, explore storytelling in music with The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and get introduced to opera via Mozart’s Magic Flute. Students sing folk songs, move to music, listen actively, recognize melodies and rhythms, and discover how music tells stories through tone poems and operas.
