Math K A

In Math K A, students build early number sense by counting, reading, and writing numbers to 10, recognizing zero, and comparing groups and numbers using equal, greater than, and less than. They explore two-dimensional shapes—circles, triangles, rectangles, squares, and hexagons—by describing, drawing, building, comparing, and joining shapes. Finally, students are introduced to addition and subtraction through story problems and number sentences. Concepts are developed through mathematical processes, such as problem-solving, communicating, representing, and making connections. By building both conceptual knowledge and procedural fluency, students strengthen their mathematical thinking and are better equipped to solve a variety of real-world problems. Portfolios in this course encourage students to explore and apply their understanding and creativity by developing original products that demonstrate mastery of targeted skills.
