Math 4 A
In Math 4 A, students will build skills in whole number operations, including place value, addition, subtraction, and multiplication with multi-digit numbers. They will learn to interpret and use remainders in division, explore number and shape patterns, and solve multi-step word problems. Students will also calculate perimeter and area of rectangles and compound figures, and develop their understanding of fractions by finding equivalent fractions, simplifying, and comparing fractions and mixed numbers. Concepts are developed through mathematical processes, such as problem-solving, communicating, representing, and making connections. By building both conceptual knowledge and procedural fluency, students strengthen their mathematical thinking and are better equipped to solve a variety of real-world problems. Portfolios in this course encourage students to explore and apply their understanding and creativity by developing original products that demonstrate mastery of targeted skills.
