5th Grade Language Arts A
Students study contemporary and classic fiction as well as informational texts. Students develop reading, writing, listening, and thinking skills through engagement with informational texts and explore the complex civilizations developed by the Maya, Aztec, and Inca prior to the arrival of Europeans. Students learn about the geography, innovations, and discoveries made in these civilizations. Finally, students explore the reading genre, myths. Throughout the course, students use the writing process to complete extended writing projects. Lessons also include explicit instruction in grammar, morphology, and spelling.
