The fall Student Climate Survey will be open from October 27 to November 14. The survey is required for all alternative high schools as part of the School Climate Indicator in the Alternative School Accountability Model, but all schools serving grades 612 are invited to participate. All schools that intend to participate must complete the Survey Participant Questionnaire by October 20.

The 24-item survey uses a Likert scale to measure students’ perceptions related to trust, respect, support, and high expectations. It is administered online and takes about 20 minutes to complete. Unique login IDs will be provided to districts in the confidential reporting portal on October 22. Districts need to distribute IDs to students prior to the testing window. Individual student responses will not be reported back to district staff.

The Wyoming Department of Education collaborated with an alternative school technical advisory group to develop the framework for alternative school accountability. This allows the school performance ratings to reflect a more accurate representation of alternative school performance under the Wyoming Accountability in Education Act (WAEA). Alternative school accountability is based on a model that meaningfully differentiates performance among alternative schools, rather than comparing alternative schools to traditional high schools.
