ACT Assessments
The ACT measures students’ general learning outcomes in English, math, reading, writing, and science. Scores are issued for each subject and may be combined to create composite scores, an English language arts composite score (using the English, reading, and writing scores), or a STEM composite score (using the mathematics and science scores).
The ACT is used by many students as a component of their college-entry applications. It may also be a criterion for financial aid and/or scholarship applications. For Wyoming students, entering a Wyoming college or the university, an ACT score is one of the qualifications for the Hathaway Scholarship.
A single opportunity is provided for students to take the ACT assessments during the spring semester in grade 11. One optional retake during the fall semester in grade 12 is allowed. Students can register for additional administrations of the ACT during national test windows at their own expense. Students on the WY-ALT path are not required to take the ACT.
WorkKeys Assessments
WorkKeys measures skills needed for career success across industries. WorkKeys scores can be used as a criterion for some levels of Hathaway Scholarship. Students complete assessments in Applied Math, Graphic Literacy, and Workplace Documents to earn the ACT® WorkKeys® National Career Readiness Certificate® (NCRC). The NCRC is a national program designed to foster economic and workforce development in Wyoming and indicates the holder has the skills required to achieve workplace success.
Wyoming provides one opportunity for each student to take the WorkKeys assessments. The assessment is administered in the fall and spring and is optional for students in 11th and 12th grades. Students who take the WorkKeys on the state test day may be eligible to receive an NCRC in addition to qualifying for a Hathaway Provisional Opportunity Scholarship.
The WorkKeys Occupational Profile Database allows users to search for careers and view the scores needed for those careers.
