New proficiency criteria have been established for the WIDA Alternate ACCESS assessments at an Overall Proficiency Level (PL) 3, based on the new WIDA Alternate ACCESS first administered in Spring 2024. The Overall Proficiency Level is a calculation based on all four language domain scores of listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Find more information about the implementation and calculation of Active EL targets and proficiency in the 2025 School Performance Rating Model Implementation Manual.
The revised WIDA Alternate ACCESS: Understanding Your Child’s Scores flyer, along with the appropriate Individual Student Report (ISR), can be shared with families to help explain student scores.
School districts should closely monitor the progress of current English learners with the most significant cognitive disabilities and be vigilant in tracking the academic achievement of those who have been reclassified and are being monitored.
