WOL-Contemporary World IssuesA

In this first semester course, students begin to compare the geography, governments, economies, and cultures of the world. Emphasis is on learning about the civics, politics, economics, structures, processes and policies of the United States and then comparing them with those of the international community. Students use what they know and learn about the United States and the world to analyze current events and contemporary issues. Reasoning and research skills are applied to the content throughout the course. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Identify the different economic philosophies across the world. Evaluate how human interaction with the environment has affected economic growth and sustainability. Analyze the impact of religion and morality on culture. Examine the factors that lead to the development of terrorism throughout the world. Identify areas of the world in which globalization is having a positive effect with regards to civil and human rights.
