Course Prerequisites: English ICourse Description: This is a standards-based course aligned with the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts. This course will focus on literature, informational texts, narrative and literary analysis writing, and standard English language usage. Learning Goal Outcomes: 1. To review, refine, and implement basic writing conventions. 2. To recognize and respond to literary elements, human values, and cultural significance of drama and the novel. 3. To develop communication skills through an oral interpretation of a dramatic piece. 4. To develop communication skills through a literature-based oral presentation. 5. To make and support a claim using research, organization, and logic. 6. To speak and listen through a variety of activities. 7. To develop and implement writing skills using effective sentence structure and fluency. 8. To read and respond to literature on a literal, figurative, and personal level. 9. To implement the Six Traits of Writing in a personal narrative. 10. To implement imagery and figurative language in poetry and prose. 11. To speak and listen through a variety of means.
