Cheyenne – The largest school district in the state, Laramie County School District #1, has joined the Wyoming Department of Education’s (WDE) efforts to increase transparency by providing parents access to curriculum being used in the classroom. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder launched the District Curriculum Transparency Initiative in January as part of the 2023-27 WDE Strategic Plan

“Parents and communities deserve to know what is being taught in their schools,” said Superintendent Degenfelder. “I applaud Superintendent Newton and LCSD#1 for joining the Initiative. Transparency remains central to our mission at the Wyoming Department of Education, and I look forward to participation from more districts in the future.”

The WDE’s District Curriculum Transparency page provides links to quickly view the primary resources of participating districts, showing how they align to the Wyoming Content and Performance Standards, and empowering parents to make informed decisions and inquiries about their children’s education.

“We are pleased to join with the WDE in its efforts to broaden understanding of the curriculum and resources we use. Transparency in education builds trust and fosters a collaborative environment among all stakeholders. By providing access, parents can better grasp the scope and sequence of the courses their kids are taking,” said Steve Newton, LCSD#1 Superintendent. “Additionally, we are creating opportunities to share knowledge across the state to improve the quality of instruction and reinforce the integrity of our educational system.”

The Transparency Hub on the WDE website includes additional resources and information for parents and community members around Accountability, Assessment, Accreditation and more.
