Algebra Concepts 1 B – H
Algebra Concepts 1 is the first-year course of a two-year sequence of courses in the study of Algebra 1. It is intended to cover fewer concepts more in-depth for those students who need more reinforcement. Students who successfully complete this course will need to take Algebra Concepts 2 to complete the entire Algebra 1 course sequence. Students will study and demonstrate knowledge of using basic operations on rational and irrational numbers, writing and solving linear equations and inequalities, interpreting linear functions, and using formulas, writing, and solving systems of equations and linear inequalities. Students will also study and demonstrate knowledge of representing and analyzing linear relationships using tables, equations, and graphs; understanding and evaluating random processes underlying statistical experiments; making inferences and justifying conclusions. Throughout this course, students will develop learning strategies, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving techniques to prepare for future math courses. Prerequisites: Math 8. Must follow with Algebra Concepts 2 to complete requirement for Algebra 1 and the Hathaway Scholarship. Documentation for placement in this course should include, but not be limited to, an ILP, WY-TOPP scores, course grades, and teacher recommendation. Cannot receive credit for both Algebra 1 and Algebra Concepts 1.
