Students will learn the value of practicing personal health behaviors and proven methods of disease prevention. They will learn that knowledge is power and gain valuable insights regarding community health, nutrition and fitness. They will learn the effect alcohol, tobacco, and drugs have on personal development, and the role personal responsibility plays in developing a healthy life. Students will build health skills; such as decision making, goal setting, building self-esteem, communication, refusal skills, and conflict resolution. Students will learn to utilize a six-stem decision-making process that presents real life situations. Students will utilize personal health inventories and notebooks. This course will address the four state standards in health, and give students the opportunity to demonstrate profiency in the content area. The common core literacy standards will be implemented within this course.
