The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) has taken into consideration the concerns of superintendents, transportation supervisors, business managers, and other district personnel regarding the amount of time it takes from vehicle order approval to vendor delivery. Supply chain shortages and other manufacturing challenges are lingering factors that have continued to cause delays.
To address this concern, the WDE will review vehicle replacement requests multiple times per year. Requests will be received and processed in July, October, January and May beginning in July 2023. Additionally, requests for vehicle replacements authorized under the applicable age requirements outlined in Chapter 20 – Rules for the Student Transportation Component within the Education Resource Block Grant Model – Section 6(b), may be submitted on a WDE621A form up to 12 months before the eligible replacement date of the vehicle.
All requests for life cycle replacement will continue to be submitted on the WDE621A form. The WDE will write an official letter stating that the district may proceed with ordering. If approved, expenses for the new vehicle cannot be claimed until the old vehicle has reached its lifecycle.
