Career and Technical Education (CTE) prepares youth and adults for a wide range of high-wage, high-skill, and  in-demand careers.

CTE Programs of Study

These programs equip students with real-world skills in order to enhance the high school experience and provide real options for rewarding careers. Programs of study allow students to explore different career pathways and figure out what they like to do and what they are good at. Please contact your student’s school district for programs of study offered locally.

Perkins V State Plan

The Carl D. Perkins Career Technical Education Act of 2006, as amended by the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V) is a federal act designed to develop more fully the academic and career technical skills of secondary education students and post-secondary education students, who elect to enroll in career technical education programs. Perkins V provides federal funding for secondary and post-secondary career and technical education in Wyoming.

Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs)

CTSOs are non-profit education student associations that form a local, state and national network and prepare students for career-related areas. Students are able to participate in competitive events across multiple disciplines and become eligible to attend National and International competitions. Wyoming currently funds five CTSOs including DECA (preparing emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), The National FFA Organization (FFA), and SkillsUSA. CTSOs not only build career and technical skills, they help students with confidence and self-esteem, communication, public speaking, leadership and resume building.
