The Wyoming Department of Education, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Preschool Grant opens July 1. All interested applicants must complete an Intent to Apply form prior to the opening date. This form is required to be registered in the new grants management system where applications will be received. The TANF Preschool Grant provides funding to Wyoming preschools to assist them in offering free or low-cost preschool to economically disadvantaged children, who may not otherwise have access to a high quality, developmentally appropriate program.
To be eligible for TANF support, children must have qualified or will qualify for free or reduced priced lunches under the National School Lunch Program established by 43 U.S.C. 1751 or children and families eligible for the Child and Adult Care Food Program. Validation of eligibility will be required. Household income must be at or below one hundred eighty-five percent (185%) of the Federal Poverty Line (FPL).
High quality early childhood education builds the foundational skills children need to thrive in school and in life. Children enrolled in high quality programs have a safe space to grow and learn. This is especially important during the first five years of life, when 90% of brain development happens. A high quality learning environment sets children up for success in school, improves health, and increases learning outcomes over their lifetimes.
