Three Wyoming robotics teams from Big Piney, Lusk and Casper attended the 2015 FIRST Robotics Competition in Denver this spring.
The Big Piney Punchers, under the direction of Steve Nelson, received 7th and represented Wyoming at the National level. ExxonMobil is an industry sponsor for the Big Piney Robotics Club.
This partnership allows the students to work with the ExxonMobil engineers and understand the real-world application of what they are learning in the classroom.
In turn, the students will develop skills as a result of their participation in the robotics program that will prepare them to not only find a rewarding career, but thrive in the workplace.
Students are presented with a difficult problem and are challenged to generate ideas and innovative solutions, which they must implement within a limited time-frame.
Through participation in a robotics team, they learn to be problem solvers, critical and creative thinkers, team members and much more.
They ultimately recognize that persistence and tenacity are important to be successful, which is a lesson they can carry with them well into the future.
