Under the Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act, the Department of Education distributes federal funds to all school districts based on student enrollment. The purpose of the program is to support local prevention activities in the area of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs (TAOD), and violence. Additional funds are distributed to five districts through a competitive grant process, to be used for staff development and violence prevention.
