The Wyoming Department of Education was awarded a State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) by the U.S Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). This grant is funded for five years (2011-2016) and is the third such grant awarded the WDE/Special Programs Division for personnel development specific to educators of students with disabilities.

The purpose of the SPDG is to assist the State in reforming and improving their professional development in early intervention, educational, and transition services in order to improve results for students with disabilities. This grant will not only build on the previous work of supporting Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), but will scale-up and strengthen the technical assistance and professional development resources available to local educational agencies to increase their capacity to improve instructional practices and ultimately improve outcomes for students with disabilities (ages 3 through 21).

The SPDG has two goals:

  1. Increase the capacity of educational agencies to implement evidence-based practices that will result in improvement on the State Performance Plan (SPP) indicators.
  2. Develop and disseminate information and resources in a variety of formats for parents and educational agencies that will result in increased awareness and knowledge.
