Cheyenne – The Wyoming State Board of Education (SBE) will hold a regular meeting on January 12-13, 2017. The session will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 12 at the Laramie County School District #1 Transportation Training Center located at 316 South Lexington Avenue in Cheyenne.

The board will hear reports from Dr. Thomas Sachse, the SBE coordinator, and Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) liaison, LIsa Weigel, about legislative updates, a strategic action plan, updating the board’s policy and governance manual and a SBE task timeline. Status reports will be provided on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), state assessment request for proposals, the Statewide System of Support and Chapter 31 Rules on Graduation Requirements. Additionally, the board will have discussions around standards review trigger options and the potential process for the upcoming math standards review.

State Superintendent Jillian Balow will share an update. Laurel Ballard, supervisor for Student and Teacher Resources Team, will provide information on the district evaluation system.
On January 13, the board will continue its review of topics from the previous day and hear updates from SBE committees. In addition, the board will take action on two district evaluation systems and consider adoption of presented SBE policies. Throughout both days board members will also be attending various events at the State Superintendent’s Policy Summit.
