Success Curriculum Information

Wyoming Department of Education > For Parents & Students > Hathaway Scholarship Information > Success Curriculum Information

In addition to the grade point average and ACT (or WorkKeys for the Provisional level), high school students must complete the Hathaway Success Curriculum (HSC). Districts must submit all courses to the Wyoming Department of Education for review before adding them to their Hathaway Success Curriculum.

With the exception of Additional Math, which must be taken in grades 9-12, Hathaway approved courses taken in middle school can be used to meet the Hathaway Success Curriculum. All courses must be high school level content and approved for Hathaway.

Dual/Concurrent, IB, and AP Courses

All Dual/Concurrent (1000-level and above), International Baccalaureate (IB), and Advanced Placement (AP) courses will be weighted on a five-point scale in order to account for increased rigor. All other courses that do not fall into the listed categories will be calculated on a standard four-point scale. Please see below for more information on the course approval processes:

  • Dual/Concurrent Courses: Courses 1000-level and above, in addition to being grade-weighted on a five-point scale, will also count for one full year of content for Hathaway purposes. Dual/Concurrent courses below the 1000-level will count for .5 year of content and will be calculated on the standard four-point GPA calculation for Hathaway purposes.
  • IB Courses: To be considered for the HSC, IB courses must be part of an approved program by the International Baccalaureate Program. Please refer to this link for more information regarding the IB Program approval process. Once approved by the International Baccalaureate Program, course syllabi may be submitted to the Hathaway Team for HSC approval.
  • AP Courses: To be considered for the HSC, AP courses must first be approved by the AP College Board. Please refer to this link for more information regarding the AP College Board approval process; please note there are deadlines in place to submit courses for approval. Once courses are approved by the AP College Board, course syllabi may be submitted to the Hathaway Team for HSC approval.
