WDE to Request Waiver for Summer 2024
April 18, 2024 – Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) is requesting to implement the following waivers from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The waivers will be for the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) for the summer of 2024.
Waivers related to excessive heat:
- Waiver 1 – Non – Congregate Meal Service during summer 2024 when area is experiencing excessive heat for outdoor sites without temperature controlled alternative sites.
- Waiver 2 – Parent / Guardian Meal Pickup during summer 2024 when area is experiencing excessive heat for outdoor sites without temperature controlled alternative sites.
Waivers related to air quality advisories:
- Waiver 3 – Non – Congregate Meal Service during summer 2024 when the area is experiencing certain air quality advisories for outdoor sites without indoor alternative sites.
- Waiver 4 – Parent / Guardian Pickup during summer 2024 when the area is experiencing certain air quality advisories for outdoor sites without indoor alternative sites.
If waivers are approved, these waivers are only to be used in cases where COVID-19 has affected normal operations. The waivers are not meant to be used for normal operations. WDE will set an approval process for schools to apply for waivers on an as needed basis. WDE will continue to provide updates and guidance on weekly emails and monthly meetings.
