Cheyenne – The Wyoming State Board of Education (SBE) will hold a regular meeting on March 23-24, 2017. The session will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 23 at the Platte County School District #1 Boardroom, located at 1350 Oak Street in Wheatland.

The board will convene as the Wyoming State Board of Vocational Education on March 23 at 11:30 a.m. and hear updates from career and technical education staff. After the adjournment of the Board of Vocational Education the State Board of Education will convene.

During the State Board of Education meeting the board will hear reports from Dr. Thomas Sachse, the SBE coordinator, the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) liaison, Lisa Weigel, and WDE staff about legislative updates, revising the board’s policy and governance manual, a SBE task timeline, the status on math standards review and options for an off-cycle review of standards. A summary report will also be provided on the Chapter 31 Rules on graduation requirements. Additionally, the board will have an in depth discussion regarding the Wyoming Accountability in Education Act and Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) that will include topics on Phase II and the equity plan.

State Superintendent Jillian Balow will share an update on the work of the WDE.

On March 24, the board will continue its review of topics from the previous day and hear updates from SBE committees. The board will take action on proposed SBE policies regarding monitoring contract and public input, the Chapter 31 Rules and alternative calendars from districts.
