The ACT Suite
(EXPLORE, PLAN, ACT Plus Writing, WorkKeys and COMPASS)

During the 2013 legislative session, the Wyoming legislature passed Enrolled Act 116 (EA 116) which requires statewide administration of EXPLORE, PLAN, and ACT Plus Writing assessments, commonly referred to as the ACT suite. These three assessments are to be administered to students in ninth, tenth, and eleventh grades, respectively. Enrolled Act 116 also requires that twelfth grade students are given the opportunity to take the optional COMPASS assessment. 

The ACT Suite is composed of ACT’s College and Career Readiness System. The College and Career Readiness System (the EXPLORE, PLAN, and ACT Plus Writing) measures a student’s skills in English, math, reading, writing and science via paper and pencil administration. The computer adaptive college placement test, COMPASS, is an online assessment in mathematics, reading, and writing.

Except for students with significant disabilities who participate in alternate assessments per their IEPs, all students are expected to participate in the ACT suite. WorkKeys will continue to be provided as an option for interested juniors, and for 2013 seniors, but it cannot be substituted for ACT participation.
