Assurances & Misassignments

Assurances

Schools and districts provide assurance that all state statutes and requirements are met each year. WDE checks that assurances are completed and spot checks key assurances as part of the accreditation process.

Process:

Schools and districts submit Improvement Plans each year to AdvancED through the ASSIST online tool. State Assurances and Title I Assurances (if appropriate) are included in the tool as part of the complete Improvement Report. The final document cannot be submitted and is not considered complete until the Assurances are submitted. Improvement Plans and Assurances are due by November 1 each year. Each year all districts hosting Quality Assurance Review (QAR) visits with AdvancED-NCA are monitored for assurance compliance using a checklist completed on site with the district. A report is made to the State Board as part of the accreditation decisions. Corrective action is required for any assurance area not fully met. Accreditation will be impacted if a considerable number of assurances are not met and/or if student health and safety are at risk.

Misassignments

Schools and districts assure that all students are taught by appropriately certified teachers at all levels and in all content areas. WDE completes an annual staffing review using the WDE602 report to monitor this assurance and assist districts to prevent misassignments of staff. The State Board has a "no tolerance" policy for staffing misassignments. If a misassignment is found in any school, the district's accreditation status will be impacted for that year.

Process:

Districts submit the WDE602 report each year in October. This report contains employment and assignment information on all district staff. One of the uses for data from this report is to verify that staff assignments match current licenses. A potential misassignments report is generated from the data and reviewed with each district. Results are reported to the State Board in May as part of the accreditation decisions. Corrective action is required for any misassignment.
